ODELL - Hazel A. Essington, 83, of Champaign County Nursing Home, Champaign, died at 1:32 p.m. yesterday (Dec. 30, 1993) at the nursing home.

Cremation rites will be accorded. A memorial service will be at a later date in Odell. Duffy Funeral Home, Odell, is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Essington was born Nov. 28, 1910, in Cropsey, the daughter of Benjamin and Bertha Meeker Abbey. She married Kenneth G. Essington June 8, 1940, in Cropsey. He died July 8, 1990.

Survivors include one son, Terry, Morton; one daughter, Gayle Mohr, Fairmount; one brother, Dale Abbey, Normal; one sister, Wilma Martens, Fairbury; and five grandchildren.

Three brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.
Mrs. Essington attended grade and high school in Cropsey and Illinois State Normal University in Normal. She taught in the Fairbury-Cropsey area for 10 years.

She was a member of the United Church of Christ in Odell. She was a past member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

McMullin-Young Funeral Home, Sullivan, was in charge of arrangements.
