Eli is a native of York County, Pennsylvania. He is a son of Phillip and Catharine (Gladfelter) Heilman. His parents were born and married in Pennsylvania and there reared a family of five children, subsequently coming to Ohio and settling in Seneca County, where the parents died. Eli was married in 1850 to Catharine Elliott, who was born in Pennsylvania in 1828, died Nov. 26, 1903. Eli purchased land in the township (Tymochtee) Wyandot County in 1861 selling same about six years later and moving to McCutchenville. He resided there about seven years and then moved upon the farm where he now lives, which was purchased in 1860. Mr. Heilman is a good farmer and a stanch Democrat. He was educated in Mercerburg College in Pennsylvania.

ELI HEILMAN

Eli Heilman, a pioneer resident of McCutchenville, died suddenly Thursday morning at 2 o'clock of heart trouble, aged about eighty years Six children survive. Mr. Heilman's death was sudden and rather unexpected by his family. The funeral occurred Saturday at 12:30 o'clock at the Presbyterian church, McCutchenville, conducted by Rev. A. C. Shuman.

Mr. Heilman was a native of York county Pa. and migrated to Ohio with his parents, settling in Seneca county, near Bloomville, in 1843. In 1850 he was united in marriage to Miss Catherine Elliot, also a native of Pennsylvania. To this union ten children were born, four having preceded him to the land of rest. Mrs. Flora Shaw, of Tiffin, Mrs. P. J. Pontius, Mrs. James Plamer of Toledo, Mrs. Emma Blue, Oscar and George, of McCutchenville, together with their mother survive him. In 1853 Mr. Heilman purchased a farm in Wyandot county, located near McCutchenville, where he and family resided for six years, at which time he bought a farm adjoining the village and which remained the family home for thirty-eight years. In 1898 he disposed of the same and purchased a home in McCutchenville, where in his declining days, he could be more free from care and anxiety. Mr. Heilman was educated in Mercerburg College, Pennsylvania. Among his classmates were the late Rev. Jermiah Good and brother, Ruben Good of Tiffin. At the age of fourteen years he was confirmed in the Reform faith. He was a grandparent to eighteen grandchildren, four having gone "over the river" in childhood. Mr. Heilman was posed with a kind disposition, every ready to do a favor for a friend, and one of the old citizens who will be sadly missed. To his family our profound sympathies are extended.
