Alice Spicer, 83, passed away on Wednesday, March 4, 2009, at her home in Tell City. She was born in Cloverport, Ky., on April 16, 1925, to the late William P. and Lillian (Dugan) Mattingly. She was united in marriage on April 27, 1946, to Hugh Spicer, who preceded her in death in 1985. Also, preceding her in death are two grandchildren, Chad Haller and Timothy Spicer, a sister, Mary Henning and two brothers, George and Fred Mattingly. Alice was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Hoosier Heights Country Club, Darnekeg, Northside Homemakers Club and Sip and Stitch. She was an accomplished seamstress and she volunteered at St. Meinrad Abbey and was a patron of the Jasper Performing Arts Center. She was recognized as a Distinguished Citizen by the Commonwealth of Kentucky in which she was appointed a Kentucky Colonel by the governor. She was an avid golfer and loved to travel. Surviving are her children, Phyllis Fiscus and her partner, Terry Roberts, of Asheville, N.C., Patricia Harrison and husband, Tony, of Chandler, Ind., David Spicer and wife, Tracy, of Seattle, Wash., and James Spicer and wife, Trina, of Owensville, Ind.; 11 grandchildren, David Haller, Robin Fread, Christie Price, Chris Barnett, Angela Hallam, Tiffany, Sarah and Alexandra Spicer, Jeffery, Joseph and Justin Spicer; six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 10 A.M. CST on Saturday at St. Paul Catholic Church in Tell City. The Rev. Timothy Sweeney, O.S.B. will officiate. Burial will take place in Cloverport Cemetery in Kentucky. Visitation will be on Friday from 2 to 8 P.M., with a parish prayer service at 6:30 P.M. and on Saturday from 8:30 to 9:30 A.M. at Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home in Tell City. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association.
