Virginia Moore Sheffield Poythress, 88, of Sylvania, passed away early Sunday morning at the Syl-View Healthcare Center surrounded by her family.
She was born in Vidalia, GA to the late Ida Rich and Coleman Moore. After her mother's death at an early age, her father married and she was reared by the late Pearl Moore. She was a member of the Farmdale Baptist Church and had been the owner and operator of her own floral shop and was a licensed practical nurse. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Charlie Brooks Sheffield and Troy William Poythress, and a grandson, Bobby Sheffield.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara S. and Al Hinson, of Springfield; two sons and daughter-in-law, Gene and Maxine L. Sheffield of Sylvania, and Don Sheffield of Newington; two sisters, Colleen Jones and Ella Mae Powell, both of Swainsboro; grandchildren, Lagina S. Evans, Randall Sheffield, Rhonda Hinson, LeiAnn Sapp, Brooks Sheffield and Todd Sheffield; and eight great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Monday evening from 6:00 – 8:00pm at the Joiner Anderson Funeral Home Screven Chapel.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, December 20, 2011at 11:00am in the Screven Chapel of Joiner Anderson Funeral Home with Rev. Vernon Edenfield and Rev. Walter Leveritt officiating.
Interment will follow at the Screven County Memorial Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Randall Sheffield, Brooks Sheffield, Todd Sheffield, Blake Evans, Fredrick Sheffield, and Ricky Sheffield.
Honorary pallbearers will be the staff of Syl-View Health Care Center.
