MT. VERNON — Loretta J. Hertenstein Rains, 83, of Mt. Vernon and a former Bonnie resident, passed away at 10:40 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, 2011, at Mt. Vernon Countryside Manor.
She was born in Kings Mill, Ark., the daughter of Ezra and Nona Jane (Locker) Ferguson. She married Charles Norman "Noey" Hertenstein on March 28, 1948; he died on Nov. 27, 1981. She married Cecil Rains on July 8, 1995; he died on Oct. 15, 2002.
Loretta's church home was the Bonnie Church of God, where she worshipped when able. Mrs. Rains enjoyed gardening and most of all she loved being involved with her grandchildren's activities.
Mrs. Rains is survived by her daughter, Lana Adams of Bonnie; three grandchildren, Jeffrey and Betsy Adams of Fort Knox, Ky., Michelle and Andy VanEycke of Joliet and Heather Adams of Bonnie; and six great-grandchildren, Christopher, Michael, Zachary and Jacob VanEycke and Grace and Joshua Adams.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ezra Ferguson and Nona Jane Cook; both husbands; and brothers and sisters, Alson Ferguson, Dalton Ferguson, Howard Ferguson, Harrold Ferguson, Eithel (Ferguson) Wilson, Venetta (Ferguson) Six, Winnie (Ferguson) Mullins and Pearl (Ferguson) Boothby.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Mt. Vernon Countryside Manor, the staff of Crossroads and Dr. Kolli for the care they gave Loretta.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at the Bonnie Church of God with the Rev. Eddie Hale officiating. Burial will be in Black Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Johnston Funeral Home in Ina, and after 10 a.m. on Thursday at the church.
