Obituary for Minerva Geren Marks in Unknown Newspaper, 1926:
In the absence of any other obituary being presented at the burial of Mrs. Marks, the following facts concerning her life has been gathered from the Beaumont Journal of Beaumont, Texas and elsewhere: Mrs. Minerva Jane Marks, aged 71, died at the home of her son, A. B. Marks, of Beaumont, Texas.
The funeral services were conducted at the home Friday night, at 7:30, by Rev. McKinney, Presiding Elder of the Beaumont District, of the Methodist church, and Rev. J. H. Pace, pastor of the First Baptist church, assisted.
She is said to have had a large circle of friends in Beaumont, and was beloved for her kindly disposition. During her early married life, Mrs. Marks lived in Meadville, Mo., where on July 7, 1889 she was received into full connection with the Methodist church by the Rev. McDermond. The family moved to Hot Springs, Ark., where they lived for a considerable time.
When she later moved to Beaumont, Texas, she became a member of the Wesley Bible Class, of the First Methodist Church of Beaumont, and was active in the affairs of the church as long as health permitted. She had been in ill health for a number of years, and was seriously ill for the past several weeks.
Surviving Mrs. Marks are four sons, two of whom reside in Beaumont, A. B. and E. C. Marks, operators of the Globe Laundry in Beaumont, and Paul Marks of El Dorado, Ark., and Russell Marks of Huli Texas; also five brothers, Wm. Geren and Mathew Geren of Meadville, Mo., Lewis Geren of St. Joseph, Mo., James Geren of Hastings, Nebraska, and Ben Geren of Hot Springs, Arkansas.
Two grown daughters, a son and Mrs. Mark's husband died several years ago. The body of the deceased was shipped over the Kansas City Southern Rail Road, at 11:25, Friday night, to Meadville, and arrived there Sunday on No. 4. The burial service was in the old cemetery of Meadville, at 12 o'clock, and conducted by Rev. S. A. Rear, pastor of the Episcopal Church of Meadville, and under the direction of the Smiley undertakers, the body of Mrs. Marks was placed beside those of her husband and daughter. Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Marks accompanied the body here for burial.
