Talmadge H. Ramsey, 73, died from a sudden illness Friday morning at the Bulloch Memorial Hospital. The Bulloch County native was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Statesboro, past chairman of the finance committee and a steward. He also served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was owner of Donaldson-Ramsey's Clothing Store for Men which opened in 1921, as well as one of the original founders of the Men's Retailers of Georgia, and served as a past director of the group. In 1964, he received the Merchant of the Year Award in the Southeastern U.S. for the Men's and Boy's Retailers Apparel Club, Inc.

He was a charter member of the local Quarterback Club, a charter member of Forest Heights Country Club, where he was a past director. He was on the Foundation Board at GSC, the Board of Directors, President's Club, a past director of the Alumni Association and the Lettermen's Club.

Survivors include his wife, Bernice Parker Ramsey, Statesboro; one son, T. Holmes Ramsey Jr., Statesboro; one brother, Bill "Tiny" Ramsey, Griffin; a stepson, Johnny Barnes; three grandchildren.

The funeral service for Mr. Ramsey will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow in the Statesboro First United Methodist Church with the Revs. Hugh Davis and Barry Woods officiating. Burial will be in the Eastside Cemetery. Smith-Tillman Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
