MRS. FRED FRENCH DIES TUESDAY a.m. Resident of Homer for 40 Years Succumbs to Heart Trouble at Age 83

Mrs. Fred French, an aged and long-time resident of Homer, died at her home here early Tuesday morning from heart trouble and complications. Mrs. French, 83, was the mother of John McElwee and had been a resident of Homer for 40 years.
Services were conducted at 2:00 o'clock Thursday afternoon, Rev. Presley P. Carson of the Methodist church officiating. Interment, in charge of Brilliant Temple, Pythian Sisters, was in Mt. Hope cemetery, near Sidney.
Mary Etta Brewer, daughter of Mary and Isaac Brewer, was born October 4, 1852, in Bonebreak settlement south of Covington, Indiana. She moved from there to St. Joseph, and later to Sidney for a time before coming to Homer in 1896. Her first husband, Dave McElwee, preceded her in death. Mr. McElwee engaged extensively in the poultry business in a building just south of the Hillard filling station.
In March, 1909, she was married to Fred French at Peoria. She was a member of the Methodist church in Homer, and of the Pythian Sisters, Temple 134.
She is survived by her husband and one son, John McElwee of Homer, and three daughters, Mrs. Cora Matthews of Daivaigac, Michigan, Mrs. Mayme Booth of Buffalo and Mrs. Lydia Bonnell of Sidney. She also leaves a sister, Mrs. Jane Springer of Lamar, Missouri, eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Homer—(CNS)—Ms. Mary Etta French, 83, died at 1:30 a. m. Tuesday, Sept. 1, 1936, at her home here of a paralytic stroke.
Mrs. French was born Oct. 4, 1852 in Covington, Ind., daughter of Isaac and Mary Bonebrake Brewer. She had lived in Homer the past 40 years. Her first husband, David McElwee, preceded her in death and she was married March 24, 1919 to Fred French.
She was a member of the Methodist Church and Pythian Sisters.
Surviving are the husband; one son, John McElwee, Homer; three daughters, Mrs. Cora Mathews, Dowalgac, Mich.; Mrs. Mame Booth, Buffalo, Ill., and Mrs. Lyda Bonnell, Sidney; 8 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Jane Springer, Lamor, Me.
Funeral services will be at 2 p. m. Thursday at the residence, the Rev. Presley Carson officiating. Burial in Mt. Hope Cemetery near Sidney, C. A. Morehouse in charge. Pythian Sisters will conduct their rites at the funeral.
