Mrs. Beveridge was born in Auchinleck, Ayrshire, Scotland, a daughter of John and Clementine (Shearer) Cowan. She married Russell Beveridge, 24 Dec 1847, in Allegany County, and they seem to have lived in Wheeling, WV, at least from 1856 until Agnes died there in 1860. They had three known children:
