Robert K. Tarkington Jr. Robert Knox Tarkington Jr., 72, of Charleston Green died Saturday at St Joseph Hospital in Lexington. Born Dec 5, 1918, in Danville, he was a son of the late Robert Knox and Edith Lovett Tarkington. A retired farmer, he was an Army-Air Corps veteran of World War II. A member of The Presbyterian Church, he was a former deacon and elder. He was a past president of the Boyle County Chapter of the American Cancer Society. A graduate of Danville High School, he attended Centre College. Survivors include his wife, Ruth Hopper Tarkington; a son, Charles Franklin Denny of Sumpter, S.C.; a daughter, Margaret Denny Hicks of Mooresboro, N.C.; and four grandchildren. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at The Presbyterian Church, officiated by the Revs. James Serviss and Michael Brothers. Burial will be in Bellevue Cemetery. Visitation is from 7 until 9 p.m. today at Stith Funeral Home, Danville. The family suggests memorials take the form of contributions to the music program at The Presbyterian Church.
