Services for Alton Edward Applewhite of Brookhaven are 2 p.m., Friday, March 2, at Brookhaven Funeral Home Chapel with burial in New Salem Baptist Church Cemetery in Franklin County.

Visitation is Thursday from 5-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Applewhite, 84, died Feb. 28, 2001, at King's Daughters Medical Center. He was born in Franklin County on April 13, 1916, to Edward Alton Applewhite and Nora Smith Applewhite.

He was a retired county worker. He was a member of McCall Creek Baptist Church, where he was a deacon.

Preceding him in death were his parents.

Survivors are his wife, Vera Mae Dunigan Applewhite of Brookhaven; his son, Kenneth Applewhite of Ridgeland; his daughter-in-law, Mary Applewhite; his brothers, Melvin Applewhite of Monticello, Donald Applewhite of McCall Creek and Glen Applewhite of Brookhaven; his sisters, Edith Dunican and Helen Ketteringham, both of Jackson, and Mary Nell Applewhite and Carolyn Smith, both of Brookhaven; and one grandchild, Alton Eugene Applewhite of Ridgeland.
