Funeral services for Melvin Applewhite of Monticello are 1:00 pm on Monday December 30 at Riverwood Family Funeral Service with burial at New Salem Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10:00 am - 1:00 pm on Monday before the services.

Mr. Applewhite, 84, passed away at the Lawrence County Nursing Home on Friday, December 27, 2013.

He was born on May 28, 1929 to Edward A. Applewhite and Nora Smith Applewhite.

He was a retired truck driver with Trans State Oil Company and Halliburton.

He was born and raised in Franklin County and was a member of New Salem Baptist Church in McCall Creek where he served in many capacities and loved helping others.

When he moved to Monticello, he was very active in Monticello Methodist Protestant Church along with his wife.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Mildred Fortenberry Applewhite, two infant children, sister, Hilda Sweeney, brothers, Harold Applewhite and Alton Applewhite.

He is survived by his wife Annette Applewhite, sons, David E. Applewhite and Richard Price and wife Christi; daughters, Lisa Taylor, Shari Mancuso and husband Nic, Jennifer Watson and husband Jon and Leisa Rintala and husband Rick; brothers: Donald Applewhite and wife Frankie and Glen Applewhite and wife Peggy; sisters, Marinell Applewhite, Helen Ketteringham, Edith Dunigan and Carolyn Smith.11 grandchidren and 7 great grandchildren.
