Grandma was a housewife, all her adult life. She knew heartache early in her married life. Just months after having her second child, a daughter Sara Juanita, her first husband Raybert Holstein was killed in the coal mine. Later a young son was killed in a fall from a train bridge. Later she married Bud Edgar Wheeler. Emma raised seven children, all being fine and upstanding people in the community.
One son, Corbett worked in the coal mine and was a minister and pastored. Two daughters Juanita ( Bob )and Betty married coal miners and Betty's husband Carl was also a pastor and minister. All three men served in the Army during WWII.
Three younger boys made the military a career. Buddy was a helicopter pilot and served in Viet Nam having the most missions flow at one time and was awarded the bronze star among several other medals. Jim served with Hawk Missile Air Defense, also serving in Viet Nam. Jack was a motor pool sergeant and served in Viet Nam. The youngest daughter, Janet married Marvin Sheets a Navy veteran. Marvin and Janet moved to New Mexico, where Marvin worked in a uranium mine. Emma and Bud also raised two nephews Buck and Richard Hicks.
