ESCONDIDO - Neva Garner Goodwin, 89, died Monday, April 3, 2000, at his home.
Born May 7, 1910, in Calico Rock, Ark., She was a high school teacher and social worker before retiring and a member of the Retired Teachers Association. She studied social work at Tulane University in New Orleans and helped establish the Arkansas child welfare system in the early '40s. She was a member of Palomar Church of Christ in San Marcos.
Mrs. Goodwin was preceded in death by her husband, Malcolm Goodwin, in 1977. She is survived by her son, Joe R. Goodwin of Long Beach; and nephew Reece Brooks of Oklahoma.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 7, at McLeod Mortuary, Escondido Chapel, with the Rev. Lyndal Privett officiating. A private burial will take place at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
