Chemist. He invented the processes for extracting nickel and ammonia. He founded the company of Brunner, Mond which eventually became the international giant, Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI). His son Alfred continued as a director of his father's companies but was more interested in politics, becoming a member of Lloyd George's cabinet.
