Betty J. Richardson, 82, passed away on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at Wayne Memorial Hospital under the care of Hospice of South Georgia.

A resident of Jesup since 1968, Betty was born on May 29, 1933 in Macon to the late Chester Peak and Pauline Padgett Jones. After graduating high school, Betty worked several years with a real estate agency in Macon. She later relocated to Jesup with her husband and worked for a short time in the lunch room at Orange Street School. In 1978, Betty began her own business caring for children in her home. After working over twenty years and after raising several hundred children, Betty retired in 1998 to be with her husband during his retirement. She was an active member of The First Baptist Church of Jesup for nearly fifty years where she attended the Berean-Dorcas-Naomi Sunday School Class. Betty loved gardening in her spare time and was a perfectionist when it came to her yards. Countless hours tending to her flowers and killing mole crickets ensured her yard was always one of the best in town.

In addition to her parents, her husband, Nathaniel Lawrence Richardson and her brother, Roy Jones preceded her in death.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Teresa Richardson of Cincinnati, Ohio and Lee and Kim Richardson of Midway; one daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Charles Tyre of Jesup; one sister-in-law, Margaret Jones of Macon; six grandchildren, Casey Richardson, Greg Tyre, Keith Tyre, Chad Richardson, Mandy Koenig and Meagan Harper. Eight great grandchildren and a numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, March 18, 2016 at the First Baptist Church of Jesup with the Reverend Michael VonMoss officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the church.

Interment will follow in Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Greg and Keith Tyre, Casey and Chad Richardson, Tony Koenig and Kyle McCrary

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Berean-Dorcas-Naomi Sunday School Class.
