A resident of Jesup since 1968, Betty was born on May 29, 1933 in Macon to the late Chester Peak and Pauline Padgett Jones. After graduating high school, Betty worked several years with a real estate agency in Macon. She later relocated to Jesup with her husband and worked for a short time in the lunch room at Orange Street School. In 1978, Betty began her own business caring for children in her home. After working over twenty years and after raising several hundred children, Betty retired in 1998 to be with her husband during his retirement.
