Permilia Mildred Baker was a daughter of Andrew Baker and Rebecca Slate and her birth record is on file in Mason Co., Mich., on page 154 record no. 267. Both of her parents were born in the state of New York. She had several nicknames: Emelie, Lillian, and Millie, of which she mostly used Millie. Millie married at least seven times.

On November 2, 1886, in Ludington, Mason county, Michigan, Millie married first to Napoleon Ponton. Milley was age 13, Napoleon was 38. Napoleon was of French Canadian descent and was born near Montreal, Canada. He was a son of Prospere and Elmire Ponton. Together they had four children:
- Maria Mina "Minnie" Ponton, b. Aug. 17, 1887
- Charles Napoleon Ponton, b. Mar. 14, 1890
- Prosper Andrew Ponton, b. Apr. 13, 1892
- Clarence Joseph "Joe" Ponton, b. Apr. 2, 1896
Napoleon and Millie's 10-year marriage ended abrubtly with Napoleon's unexpected sudden death in January 1897 at age 36.

On February 14, 1898, at Baldwin, Lake county, Michigan, Milley married John Leroy. Millie was age 24, John about 38 or 39. John was a son of Dermon Leroy and Joanah McDonald.

On October 12, 1899, in Ludington, Millie married D.(avid) Reason Halsal. Millie was age 25, Reason was about 30. Reason was the youngest of four children born to David Halsal and Mary Hicks. Milley and Reason divorced.

On July 18, 1914, at Frankfort, Benzie county, Michigan, Milley married Edward M. Layman. Millie was age 40, Ed was 24. Ed's parents were John Layman and Ida Somers, both natives of Germany (Poland). Millie and Ed divorced before 1920.

On January 17, 1920, at Ann Arbor, Washtenaw county, Michigan, Milley married Joseph N. Gubba (1873-1950). They were both 46 years old. Joe was a native of Canada but grew up in Rockland township, Ontonagon county, Michigan. Milley and Joseph divorced.

Millie died at age 54 from carcinoma of the uterus. The name on her death record is Mildred Ponton Layman but she and Ed Layman had divorced prior to her death.
