Prosper was a son of Napoleon Ponton and Emelie Mildred "Millie" Baker. In spite of his young age he was employed as a logger in Michigan's Upper Peninsula.
Prosper died as a young teenager. He died of accidental drowning on the Cedar River (a.k.a. Big Cedar River) in Cedarville township, Menominee county, Michigan. Prosper was working a log jam when he slipped and fell into the water and was crushed between logs.
