Wife of A. H. [Alfred Hinds Carter]

Obituary for Ida May Carter from the
Texas Christian Advocate, June 9, 1898:

Mrs. Ida May Carter, daughter of Rev. and Mrs. C. H. Brooks, was born in Waverly, Walker County, Texas, February 20, 1862; was happily married August 27, 1884, to Mr. A. H. Carter, of Elgin, Texas, and quietly passed away May 24, 1898, to her home beyond the skies. Sister Carter’s religion from childhood was of that practical type which, while entirely unobtrusive, was always manifesting itself in acts of self-forgetfulness and disinterested devotion to others. She was a model wife, an indulgent mother, an unfailing friend. Loved and lamented by all who knew her, as was attested by the immense throng of weeping friends who followed her to her last resting place in Elgin cemetery, where we laid away what of her was mortal to await the resurrection of the just. She leaves father, mother, brother, sisters, husband and eight children to follow on. Thank God they know where to find her.
