Julia Ottice Simkins, 92, of Lockhart, died Tuesday, April 25, 2006, in San Marcos.
She was born July 1, 1913 in Karnes County, Texas to Carl C. and Vernabell (McDonald) Blackwell.
She was married to Ray Simkins on June 8, 1940 in Austin.
Ottice enjoyed working at the nursery of the First Lockhart Baptist Church and her association with the Lockhart Art Guild, the Senior Citizens Center and the Creedmoor Extension Homemakers Club. She was a homemaker.
Ottice was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Vernabell Blackwell; by her husband, Ray Simkins; by her two sons, Arthur Ray Simkins and James Carl Simkins; by one brother, Charles Lee Blackwell and by one sister, Willie Alexander.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Linda Simkins of Benson, Ariz.; by her two grandsons, Vinson Lee Simkins of Benson, Ariz. and Charley Simkins of Phoenix, Ariz.; by two sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruth and George Barnes and Mary Jo and James David Malone, all of Austin.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, April 29, 2006 at McCurdy Memorial Chapel with Dr. Richard Penna officiating. Interment followed in Barton Cemetery.
The family extends their gratitude to the Chisholm Trail Nursing Center in Lockhart for their loving care during the past six years.
