Joseph Grubb Williams was born in Fayette County, Pennsylvania in 1829 and married (1)Sarah Amanda Strawn in 1850 and had 4 children. After Sarah's death he married (2)Almira Warner and had 4 more children. After Almira's death he married (3)Martha Pettit. He served in the Civil War in the Thirty-sixth Iowa Volunteer Infantry from 1862 to 1865 and was wounded at Mark's Mill, Arkansas in 1864. He died in Eddyville, Iowa in 1902 and is buried in the Eddyville Cemetery. I believe this obituary came from the Eddyville Newspaper

"J G Williams died at his late home on First street, March 21, 1902, aged 72 years, 10 months and 12 days of dropsy of the heart.
Joseph G Williams was born in Fayette county, Pa, May 9, 1829. He spent his boyhood days in that vicinity, and was married when about 21 years old. in the later 50's he came to Iowa with his wife and four children.
He leaves a wife and three sons and many friends, who loved him for his many good qualitities.
He served three years in the War of the Rebellion and was laid to rest by four of his comrades, who enlisted with him in August 1862, and served three years with him, ten months of that time as prisoners of war together: F M Epperson, H G True, John Foster and B F Gordon."

Joseph married (1) Sarah Amanda Strawn on December 10 1850 in Washington County Pennsylvania. They had four children; John, Samuel, Jasper and Eliza. Sarah died August 23 1859. He married (2) Almira Warner on March 3 1861 in Wapello County and they had four children; William, Charity, Ulysses, and Joseph. He enlisted 6 Sep 1862 with CO D 36th Iowa Regiment and was wounded and captured in battle April 1864 near Marks Mill. He was held at Camp Ford (near Tyler Texas) until Feb 1865 when the prisoners were exchanged near the mouth of the Red River. He married (3) Martha Jane (Buckingham) Pettit October 3 1876 in Schuyler County Missouri. They had no children. He died of complications of his war injuries.
