Her birth certificate say she was born in the Spokane area of Washington Territory, now known as Los Gatos, California. That does not make complete sense to me, but that is what the records indicate. John died of galloping consumption, or T.B.
After John's death, Etha and her young daughter, Ella, were called home to Iowa by her parents, Father Philip Dotts, and Mother Margaret Shawver Dotts. She returned to Iowa, and after a period of time, Etha married her second husband, John Dawson Funk.
