While in Boot Camp training for World War II, he jumped into a fox hole to avoid a tank coming at him as part of the program and the tank ran over his ankle and crippled him for life. He was confined to a wheel chair, but this did not stop him from becoming a very good electrician from his wheel chair. Looking at his grave photo I see they spelled his name wrong on his Birth Certificate. It reads Melvin Ray Hurst. He had a very loving and Caring Wife in Barbara Daniels-Hurst whom he always called Babe. I miss you both very much .. Patrick
