Margie D. Newton, age 79, of Baird, Texas, passed away Thursday, December 1, 2011, at an Abilene hospital. Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, December 5, 2011, at the First Baptist Church of Baird, with interment to follow in Moran Cemetery. Pastor Jimmy Hatcher will officiate with Parker Funeral Home of Baird in charge of arrangements. A visitation will be held from 3:00 until 4:30 P.M. Sunday afternoon at the funeral home.
Margie was born August 9, 1932, in Leakesville, Mississippi, to Wiley and Eliza Prentiss Cooley. She graduated from Leakesville High School. Margie and Maurice Newton married in 1951 at Carswell Air Force Base in Ft. Worth, Texas. They had celebrated their 60th anniversary this year.
Being an Air Force wife, Margie lived in many states, including Alaska, Hawaii, the Philippines, and Okinawa. She was a homemaker and had worked as a day care provider. She and Maurice had lived in Baird since 1976 and were members of the First Baptist Church of Baird.
Survivors include her husband, Maurice of Baird, Texas; one son, Michael Newton and wife Belinda of Abilene, Texas; 2 daughters, Debra King and husband Rob of Eastland, Texas, and Sandra Newton of Baird, Texas; 3 brothers, Reubin Ball of Leakesville, Mississippi, Ed Ball of Gulfport, Mississippi, and Joe Ball of New Braunfels, Texas; 3 sisters, Betty Hudman of Leakesville, Mississippi, Medora Blackburn of Winston-Salem, North Carolina and Mary Hoffstetter of Walkertown, North Carolina; 1 grandson, Joshua Newton of Abilene, Texas; 1 granddaughter, Jordan Agnor and husband Ben of Ft. Hood, Texas; 1 step-grandson Robby King and wife Rye of Fort Worth, Texas; 1 step-granddaughter Sarah Sellers and husband Justin of Eastland, Texas; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
