Mr. Atherton was a retired truck driver for Owens Cleaners and Cole Lumber Company, a Veteran of both the U.S. Army and Air Force, member of New Hope Cumberland Presbyterian Church, and also a life member of Disabled American Veterans.
He is survived by his daughter Lissa Augustino of Paducah, one brother Larry Atherton of Mayfield and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Charleene Gross Atherton; parents Harry and Ruby Adams Atherton; two brothers and two sisters.
Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, December 5, 2011 at New Hope Cumberland Presbyterian Church Cemetery with Rev. Jeff Biggs officiating.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Monday, December 5, 2011 at the Lone Oak Chapel of Milner and Orr Funeral Home.
