Nelda Gwartney
JACKSONVILLE — Funeral services for Nelda Gwartney, age 75, of Jacksonville, are scheduled for 11:00 am Saturday, August 28, 2010 at Autry Funeral Home chapel, Jacksonville with Rev. Darin Wood and Rev. Steve Edwards officiating.

Burial will be held at Still Waters Memorial Gardens, Jacksonville.

Mrs. Gwartney passed away Wednesday, August 25, 2010 in Jacksonville.

She was born October 31, 1934 in Gause, Texas.

Mrs. Gwartney graduated from Dilley High School in 1953 and Texas State University in 1957 with a BBA, was a member of Central Baptist Church, Jacksonville, where she was a member of the choir, was a school teacher for the Hondo Independent School District, member and past president of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and served in several civic clubs, manager of the Business and Accounting Department of Brackettville I. S. D. In Jacksonville she was active in various civic and social organizations.

In 1995 she was recognized as "Volunteer of the Year" for the Crisis Center of Anderson and Cherokee Counties.

In 2000 she was recognized as "Woman of the Year" by the Career Women's Civic Club of Jacksonville, Texas for her "unselfish service to community, home, church and family."

She was a loyal friend, a devoted wife, and a beloved mother and grandmother.

Most importantly of all, her life and her actions were a living demonstration of one who loved the Lord with all of her heart.

She will be loved and missed by all.

She is preceded in death by her husband Richard D. "Bud" Gwartney September 21, 2005, sisters Charlie B. Downing and Mary Stone, brother Beverly Jones and parents Charlie and Harriett Jones.

Survivors include son Brad Gwartney and wife Stacy of Jacksonville; daughter Kristy Daly and husband Burhl of Mankato, MN; sister Martha Halloran of Jacksonville; brother Glendale Jones of Clifton, TX; and four grandchildren Ashley and Austin Gwartney and Michael and Lauren Daly.

Pallbearers will be Austin Gwartney, Nick Bruno, Greg James, Zane McDonald, Johnny Sanderson, and Don Cornelius.

Honorary pallbearers will be Randy Berry, Shane Yates, Bob Johnson, Michael Daly, Jim Bob Lindsey, Bruce Robinson, Ronnie Ricks, Wilbur Roddy, and Carl Scwandner.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 pm Friday, August 27, 2010 at Autry Funeral Home, Jacksonville.
