Charles A. Duffield Dies Here

Charles A. Duffield, 72, died at the home of his sister, Msr. U. F. Duffield, of Sutton, early Sunday morning, after an illness of several months. Born near Sutton, June 15, 1873, he was the son of Dyer Duffield and Araminta Keener Duffield and a descendant of two pioneer families. Raised in a Christian home, he joined the Christian church at the age of 14 years.

Early in life, Mr. Duffield was a county school teacher and later engaged in farming, dealing in lumber and real estate, and served one term as deputy sheriff of Braxton county. He married Bessie Carper Duffield, who survives with the following children: Mrs. Leland Booth, of Hollywood, Calif; Mrs. Jack Morris, of Pittsburgh, Pa; Joe Duffield, C. P. O. with the Navy in California; C. A. Duffield Jr., S 2c, stationed at Great Lakes, Illinois; and paul Duffield, of Waynesburg, Pa. There are eleven grandchildren.

The following brothers and sisters also survive: Mrs. Sarah Jane Smith, Mrs. U. F. Duffield, Mrs. Emma Eakle, all of Sutton; John B. Duffield, Cleveland N. C.; G. C. Duffield and Addison Duffield of Charleston; W. C. and Robert Duffield and Mrs. Fannie Bowers, of Sutton.

Funeral services were held at the Baptist church, Tuesday at 2 p. m. with Rev. Kelley Smith, Officiating and music was furnished by Miss Mary Duffield. Interment was in Sutton Cemetery.
