Johnston, Feb. 3 (Special)— Mr. W. M. Hazel, a former resident of this place but late of Spartanburg, died at an early hour this morning at the residence of Dr. Ben Lee Allen, where he was taken on Tuesday afternoon having been suddenly taken ill on the street while here attending to business. On Thursday it was thought he would recover, but Friday he lapsed into unconsciousness, in which state he remained until death. His wife, nee Miss Vida Smith, of Florida, and his two sons, young mens Grady and Cecil were at his side when the end came.
Mr Hazel was born and reared near Johnston, having left two years ago in order to put their sons in college. The burial took place here this afternoon from the M. E. church of which he has been a member many years.

Inscription

Asleep in Jesus
Blessed Sleep,
from which none ever wake to weep.
(On back of marker):
Dearest husband, We have laid
thee in the peaceful grave...
But thy memory will be...
Till we see thy beaming face.
