Wife of Yancey M. Powell; mother of Clarence F. Powell, grandmother of Dianne Powell Hare, great-grandmother of Kimberly Hare Beeson, great-great-grandmother of Lydia and Addisyn Fee.

Her 1951 newspaper obituary read as follows:

Mrs. Y.M. Powell Dies at Age of 83

On Tuesday afternoon, July 10, 1951, we were saddened when news came that the spirit of Mrs. Y.M. Powell had taken its flight to her eternal home. She passed away suddenly at the home of her son, Mr. J.H. Powell. Even though she had been in declining health for several months her death came as a shock.
She was the daughter of the late Jim and Mary Bodie Hazel. She lived her entire life in the Bethlehem Community. She was the widow of the late Yancy M. Powell who died March 21, 1950.
She was the oldest member of the Bethlehem church, passing her 83rd birthday February 21st.
She was a devoted mother. Her work expressed itself in faithfulness and loyalty to her children.
On many occasions when friends dropped in to visit with her she would ask questions concerning the work of the community. It was a great joy for her to sit and talk with friends.
Her wise counsel for love of home and family will be greatly missed. Home was a dear spot to her.
She is survived by 6 sons, Otis Powell, Herman Powell, Wilbur Powell, Boyce Powell, Elzie Powell, and Clarence Powell of Johnston.
The youngest son Marvin preceded her in death, May 1930.
12 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services were conducted at Bethlehem church last Thursday afternoon at 3:30 by her pastor, Rev. C.S. Floyd of Saluda. Her body was laid to rest in Bethlehem cemetery to await resurrection morn.
The grandsons served a pallbearers and the official board of Bethlehem church as honorary.
The floral offering was beautiful and many friends came to pay their last respects.
