Christened 30 August 1778, daughter of Richard and Catherine (Penberthy) Hawes. Married her first cousin, Thomas Hampton, at Lelant on 20 June 1801. She was the mother of five children, twins Robert and Richard, who died young, and Catherine, Thomas and Jane who each died in their teens in the early part of 1820. Gertrude followed them to the grave in June of that same year.
