Christened 10 August 1735, the son of Richard and Gertrude (Hosking) Hawes. He married Catherine Penberthy at Lelant on 17 January 1771. Father of four children: Richard and Gertrude (d.y.) Hawes and Gertrude and Catherine Hampton. Richard served as the parish clerk of Lelant for most of his adult life, following in the footsteps of his father. He died at Lelant and was buried 10 August 1807.
