Frank Isgrigg Hamilton, 80, Greensburg, died at 4:04 p.m. Sunday, August 17, 2003 at Decatur County Memorial Hospital, Greensburg.
Born January 6, 1923 in Indianapolis, he was the son of Frank and Mary F. (Isgrigg) Hamilton. He married Ethel Dawson Sept. 11, 1948 in Louisville, Ky., and she survives.
A 1940 graduate of Wiley High School, Terre Haute, he earned his bachelor's degree from Indiana University and his law degree from Indiana University School of Law.
He joined the U.S. Army in September 1943 and served in World War II until 1946. He had a private legal practice until he retired in 1986.
He was past commander of his local, district and state American Legion and served as national commander from 1979-80. He was also past exalted ruler of Elks Lodge 475; past president and chairman of the Board of Lamba Corp. of Sigma Chi fraternity; chairman of Indiana University Varsity Club of Decatur County; past president of Decatur County Bar Association; and was a member of First Presbyterian Church since 1950, where he was a Sunday school teacher and served as deacon. He also holds memberships in several other social organizations, including several Masonic orders.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Frank I. Hamilton Jr. of Greensburg and Robert P. Hamilton of New Albany; four daughters, Mary Watts and F. Blair Watts, both of Carmel, Jane Quigley of Tennessee, and Elizabeth Hamilton of Portland, Ore.; and 11 grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William Everett Hamilton.
Funeral service is at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home, Greensburg. Burial will follow in South Park Cemetery, Greensburg. Visitation is from 4-7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, Decatur County Family YMCA or Greensburg-Decatur County Public Library.
