Dorthy J. Annanders-Cruz, 57, of Tecumseh, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2011, at her home in Tecumseh.
She was born April 17, 1954, to Charles W. Sr. and Sybil (Hamlin) Annanders in Shawnee.
Dorthy moved with her family to Tecumseh in 1955 and has resided at her childhood home ever since. She attended first through eighth grades at New Hope School, later attending Tecumseh Public Schools, and graduated with the class of 1972 from Tecumseh High School. Dorthy graduated from professional business school, earning her associate's degree.
She worked as a payroll assistant for LSB Industries in Oklahoma City for 14 years.
Dorthy was very active with the American Legion. She enjoyed flower gardening, collecting mice figurines, and camping at Devils Den and Blue River in Tishomingo. Dorthy loved children and helped raise her nieces and nephews. She was a very strong fighter, caring for others, and giving of herself.
Dorthy was preceded in death by her parents, Charles W. Sr. and Sybil Annanders; brother, Robert Louis Annanders; and niece, Rebecca Annanders.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Christopher and Luisa Cruz of Oklahoma City; sister, Patricia Annanders of Earlsboro; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Carl and Kay Annanders of Bethel Acres, Mike and Marilyn Annanders of Tecumseh, and Charles Annanders of Tecumseh; ex-husband and friend, Steve Cruz of Tecumseh; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and many special friends and extended family.
Visitation will begin 10 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 1. The family will gather from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 1, to meet with friends. Casket will remain open until time of service. Service will be 11 a.m., Friday, Dec. 2, at Cooper Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Will Wilson of New Hope Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Mars Hill Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
