Kenneth Wayne Madsen, 89, of Centerville, Utah, passed away quickly on November 28, 2011. Ken lived a rich, full, and busy life. We are certain that he passed through the veil kicking up his heels as he reunited with extensive family who had preceded him from mortality. He had raked leaves that morning, called to check on upcoming birthdays and enjoyed dinner with his wife Mary before being rushed to Lakeview Hospital due to heart failure.

Ken was born March 26, 1922 to Leslie Jorgen and Reba Evelyn Alder Madsen in Manti, Utah, where he grew up with four brothers and two sisters. He graduated from Manti High School in 1940 with a lot of "kissing" cousins.

In 1942, Ken joined the U.S. Navy and served during World War II as an Aviation Machinist Mate. Returning home at the conclusion of the war, he attended Utah State Agricultural College in Logan, Utah earning a B.S. degree in Building Construction with a minor in Electronics in 1951. He was an Aggie ever after.

Ken married his first wife, Joan Welty, in 1947 and they had three wonderful daughters. Following a divorce Ken met and married Erma Hale in the Logan Temple in 1954. This marriage was blessed with a son and three more daughters. After Erma passed away in 1993, Ken was then sealed to Mary Annette Haycock in 1994 in the Jordan River Temple. His marriage to Mary added eight step-sons and their families to his family.

For twenty years Ken worked at Hill Air Force Base as a civilian contractor. He retired the first time in 1977 then went on to work for twenty more years as a carpenter and foreman with a couple different construction companies.

An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Ken served throughout his life in a wide variety of positions. In later life, Ken served three missions for the Church.

Throughout his busy life, Ken continually served his neighbors and his ever expanding family. He maintained a large garden of fruits and vegetables widely sharing the produce and preserves with many.

Ken is survived by his wife Mary Madsen; a brother, Morgan Carl Madsen; a sister, Joyce Cox; daughters: Linda Sue Smith, Christa Stokes, Randi Catlett, Pamela Brown, Paula Bass, and Ann Maloy; son, Scott Madsen; and their spouses. His expanded family further includes eight step-sons; fifty-four grandchildren; and twenty-six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 3, 2011 in the Centerville Third Ward Chapel, 400 East 900 South. A viewing will be held on Friday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main Street, and Saturday morning from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church prior to the services.
