WILLIAM KELLY.

Wm. Kelly was born September 25, 1823 in the township of Wainfliet, Niagara county, Canada, and died at his late home in Hartford, May 31, 1911. The funeral services were held at the house Friday afternoon, conducted by Elder Horton of Lawrence, and the remains were laid to rest in the cemetery at Watervliet.

He was married to Caroline Beal, Aug. 22, 1849, and moved to Seneca, Canada, Mar. 11, 1850, where he lived until 1854 then came to Michigan, settling in Deerfield, now Covert township, in1855. In 1863 they moved to Watervliet township, Berrien county, then to the village of Watervliet in 1893. March 1, 1900, they went to White Cloud, Newago county, and in November, 1910, moved to Hartford where he lived at the time of his death.

He has been a faithful christian for over 50 years, a kind husband and father, and one who was highly respected by all who knew him for his honesty and straight dealing. It was always his aim to do right, regardless of the cost or suffering. He longed to leave this world yet he bore everything with patience unto the end and died very peaceful and happy. To this union were born nine children, six boys and three girls, eight of whom are still living; Wm. H., James Reuben, Franklin, Elwood Kelly, of Hartford, Pamealia J. Morton of Dowagiac, Mary Abel and Rosa Coon of Watervliet, Oliver H. Kelly of Niles, and Clinton Elmer Kelly who died at the age of 4 years. Besides his wife and eight children there are 32 grandchildren, and 37 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild and a wide circle of friends to mourn his loss.
