GLENDIVE, MONTANA: Jake Steiner, age 76, passed away on Tuesday, August 4, 2009 at his home in Glendive. Visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M. and from 6:00 P.M.- 8:00 P.M on Friday, August 7, 2009 at the Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home of Glendive. A Vigil Service will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Friday, August 7, 2009 in the Chapel of the Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, August 8, 2009 in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Glendive with Father Greg Staudinger and Father Joseph Ponessa officiating. Rite of Committal with military honors will be in the Dawson Memorial Cemetery in Glendive. Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home of Glendive has been entrusted with the arrangements. Jake was born on December 2, 1932, in Dickinson, North Dakota, the son of George and Frances (Wandler) Steiner. He attended the Plum Creek School south of Richardton, North Dakota. Throughout Jake's youth he worked on the family farm as well as various other farms in the Richardton area. Jake enlisted in the United States Army in June 1953. While in the military, Jake earned his GED. He served during the Korean War, attaining the rank of Corporal. He was honorably discharged from the military in April 1955. Following his discharge from the Army Jake moved to Glendive where he met Frances Geiger, they were united in marriage on April 18, 1956 at Sacred Heart Church in Glendive. They have made their home in Glendive since that time. Jake worked for Sterhan Construction and Thrifty Construction in Glendive while pursuing a course from the Chicago Technical Correspondence School. He received a diploma in General Construction before becoming a General Contractor and starting Steiner's Construction in 1973. After 23 years in the construction business Jake retired in 1996. During his retirement Jake enjoyed woodworking, fishing, traveling in his motorhome, playing cards and dice and using his home computer. Jake was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Third Degree and had served two terms as Grand Knight. He was a member of the Monsignor Hennessy Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus and had served two years as a Faithful Navigator. He was also a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1125; a life member of the American Legion and a member of the Glendive Moose Lodge # 949. Jake was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Lee and Anton Steiner; five sisters, Rose Harmon, Barbara Osaben, Eleanor Manly, Helen Detwiler and Ismarie Kuntz. Survivors include, his wife Frances of Glendive, son, David Steiner and a daughter Joyce Hutchison and her husband John all of Glendive; son, Wayne Steiner and his wife Nadine of Wahpeton, North Dakota; daughter, Nancy Colbrese and her husband Victor of Snohomish, Washington; son, Leroy Steiner and his wife Deanne of Lake Havasu City, Arizona; six grandchildren, Justin and Trevor Steiner, Natasha and Ciara Hutchison, Savannah and Wyatt Colbrese; four sisters, Sister Frances Steiner and Sister Perpetua Steiner both of Richardton, North Dakota, Perpetua Staudinger of Billings, Montana, Frances Kathrein and her husband Tony of New England, North Dakota, and numerous nieces and nephews.
