MUSCATINE, Iowa -- Gertrude J. Sywassink of Muscatine, died Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2000, at Unity Hospital in Muscatine.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, at the Nichols Chapel Hill Funeral Home and Crematory. Dr. Hal Green of the Wesley United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Wesley United Methodist Church or the Lutheran Homes.

She was born in Muscatine, the daughter of Benjamin J. and Jennie W. Bruggers. She was a graduate of Muscatine High School, Iowa State Teacher's College and the University of Iowa. She loved sewing and needlework. She was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, the Ruth Circle, a 50-year member of the Eastern Star, Pi Lamda Theta, National Retired Teachers Association and a charter member of Delta Kappa Gamma.

Survivors include two brothers, Al Sywassink of Wilton, and Harry Sywassink of Muscatine; three sisters, Myrta Kaufmann of Muscatine, Mary Peck of Iowa City, and Esther Sywassink of Garrett, Kan.; and a host of nieces and nephews.
