Effie was the daughter of William C. Conner and Malinda J. Crow. She lost her son Victor when he fell and was run over by a mule-drawn cotton wagon at the age of 8. She nursed her husband Aldon through years of TB illness until he died in 1925. She then contracted the disease and died in 1928 leaving behind two orphaned daughters age 13 and 7.

After Aldon died, Effie married his brother Curtis Gorman. They had no children.
