James Victor was the son of Aldon Rufus Gorman and Effie Gold Conner. Victor and his father were taking a wagon of cotton to the gin in Rankin. The wagon was being pulled by a team of mules and Victor was at the reigns. They were heading east just before the Rankin School and Victor saw another wagon approaching the intersection in front of the school from the south and decided to speed up his team to beat the other wagon to the intersection and thus be ahead of them at the gin. The wagon hit a bump in the road which caused Victor to be thrown from the wagon and the wheels of the wagon ran over his chest. He looked up at his father and said, "father, I hurt bad" and then he died. They took his body back home and laid him on the east porch. He was only 8 years old.
