J. GRANT THURGOOD

Our loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend, Joseph Grant Thurgood, passed away peacefully Sunday, February 12, 1995, in Salt Lake City, Utah. His great joy in life was quietly serving others.

He was born November 28, 1907, in Provo, Utah to John F. and Mary Ellen Park Thurgood. Married Ethel Alder September 9, 1931, in the Manti LDS Temple. They were married 56 years. She died September 10, 1987. Married Mary H. Doezie, July 16, 1988.

He was raised in Provo, attended Provo High School and graduated in accounting from BYU in June 1930. While at BYU he served as business manager of the Banyan, was conference wrestling champion in his weight class, and played in the BYU band, the Provo City Elks Club Band and Charlie Wells Orchestra. He was credit manager for Fred A. Carleson Co. for 25 years. After retiring from the State Auditors Office in 1973, he served as the State Legislature with Security Services for 20 years.

He was a faithful member of the LDS Church serving in many capacities and was a high priest in the Monument Park 2nd Ward. He was a great sport enthusiast with tennis being his great "LOVE".
