James Alex DiVerdi, 87, of Rockford went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2011, at home after a long illness.

Born Aug. 21, 1924, in Rockford, son to Alex and Mary (Maggio) DiVerdi. Married Jacqueline Ridlon on Nov. 26, 2003, in Rockford. Jim proudly served his country during WWII with the 8th Air Force as a crew chief for P51 Mustangs. In 1988, he retired from Sundstrand, where he received many awards for his contributions to the Space Shuttle. He enjoyed going to casinos, dancing and playing cards. He was a member of the Eagles Club for 36 years, VFW post 5149 and American Legion.

Survivors included his wife, Jackie; his children, James (Ann), Thomas (Chris), Susan (Ed) Swinney of Loves Park, and Joanne (John) Goranson of Rockford; his children by marriage, Rose (Dave) Way, Betty (Bill) Weeks and Susan (Lonnie) Jennings; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; thirteen step-grandchildren, twenty six step-great-grandchildren and three step-great-great-grandchildren; brother, Tony (Lyla) and sisters, Ange Szymanski and Rose (Chas) Alberts, all of Rockford; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Predeceased by his first wife, Helen; parents; brothers, Barney (during WWII) and Sam; and sister, Cozette.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2011, in St. Anthony Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in Honquest Family Funeral Home with Crematory, Rockford Chapel 4311 N. Mulford Road. Burial will be in Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to his wife.
