A military Mass was held for Barney, a machinist's mate, third class on September 18th. According to two news blurbs, his remains were interred somewhere in the state of Alaska. After completing my research on Frances, I found a card in the U.S. Headstone Applications for Military Veterans, 1925–1963 database that indicated a headstone had been shipped to St. Mary's Catholic cemetery and was sent to Frances attention. The headstone was ordered September 9, 1948.

Barney died while serving aboard the U.S.S. White Marsh during World War II. He reported to sick bay on August 24th and tests showed he suffered from diabetes. He developed bronchial pneumonia on August 31st and died on the 3rd.

He married the former Frances Amodeo in Rockford on October 22, 1939. The couple were the parents of a son, who was born in mid-January 1943, who the couple named Bernie.

Frances was the daughter of Jasper and Josephine Amodeo, of Chicago, and the sister of Vito and Marie Grace.
