Anton Bansbach was born in Germany, the son of Anton and Eve Griesmer. He was from a very devout Catholic family. He migrated to the United States in 1881. We first find record of him in St. Louis in 1888. He was an Organist and served for a time as Music Director at Kenrick Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri. He wrote a booklet, “Vatican Chant: A Short Course in Practical Instruction” This book, which was about Plain and Gregorian Chants, was copyrighted and published in 1906. (ASIN: B0008ANLM6)

Anton first married Josephine Stippe; their children are Philip Anthony, Eva Louise, and Leo Alexander Bansbach. In 1910 he married Ida Boschert in St. Charles (near St. Louis) and had two sons, Joseph Anthony Bansbach and Anthony F. Bansbach.

Around 1910 he moved with his family to Alleghany, Pennsylvania. This is where his sister, Sister Aloysia (birth name Eva Bansbach) was a Mother Superior for the Sisters of Divine Providence. It appears the family lived there for a few years as they were in Jacksonville, FL by 1913. During the time he was in Alleghany his occupation was “Church Organist”.

He continued sharing his musical talents and his death certificate lists his occupation, “Retired Musician”
Anton died and is buried in Jacksonville, FL.

He is my 2nd great uncle. Link to Ancestry tree:
