The Bulloch County native was a farmer and a member and deacon of Poplar Baptist Church in upper Bulloch County.
Surviving are his wife, Aleatha Edna Sparks Bowen, Garfield; his daughter, Luree Bowen-Dutton, Buford; four sons, J.M. Bowen and Joe Bowen, both of Garfield, John Bowen, Birmingham, Ala., and Sam Bowen, Metter; 10 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Poplar Springs Baptist Church with Dr. James E. Bellis officiating. Burial will be in Poplar Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.
The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Visitation will be held today from 6 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
