CHILLICOTHE - James G. Turpin Sr., 86, formerly of Peoria, died at 3:20 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, 2000, at Heritage Manor, where he was a resident.
Born Sept. 17, 1914, in Bevier, Mo., to Robert and Nancy Jones Turpin, he married Florence Thornburg on May 24, 1936, in Peoria. She died Dec. 24, 1995, in Medford, Ore.
He also was preceded in death by one son, James Jr., on Jan. 20, 1997; four brothers; and three sisters.
Surviving are one son, Jerry (and Eileen) of Chillicothe; one sister, Elva Vaughn of Rogue River, Ore.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
A member of Meat Cutters Local 536 for 43 years, he was a meat cutter at Kenny's IGA for several years until retiring in 1976. He also had worked at Kroger in Chillicothe, the Chillicothe Locker, and John Bee and A&P, both in Peoria.
He was a charter member of Assembly of God Church in Chillicothe. He also was a member of Rogue River Church.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria. The Rev. Ed Dutton will officiate. There will be no visitation. Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home in Peoria is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to Rescue 33.
