Mathias St. Jean, known as Michael St. John died yesterday morning at his home, 9 Walnut Street, Artic, in his 40th year. Mr. St. Jean, who served as a second class seaman actively from August 5, 1918 to December 18 of that year and was awarded a Victory Medal by the Bureau of Navigation in recognition of his service during the World War, died following a brief illness.
He was born in Taunton, Mass., July 25, 1898, a son of the late Joseph and Antoinette (Casavant) St. Jean. On June 26,1918 he enlisted in the Navy at Newport as Michael St. John and received his honorable discharge September 30, 1921 in Boston.
He is survived by his wife, Opalma (Gamelin) St. Jean; three sons, Gerard, Armand and Frederick and two daughters,
Doris and Violet St. Jean; three brothers, Henry, Joseph and
Delphis St. Jean and two sisters, Mrs. Thomas McCrea of Virginia and Mrs. Joseph Beaudry of Canada.
The body, which was taken to Thomas Robert & Son Funeral Home, Washington Street, Artic, will be returned to his home tonight. Funeral services will be held there Wednesday morning at 8:15 followed by a requiem mass at 9 o'clock at St. John's Church, Artic. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Artic.
