Mildred attended Western Illinois University and received her degree in elementary education. She received her Master's degree from the University of Illinois. Mildred was a member of The United Methodist Church of Paxton, IL, the Business and Professional Women's Club of Paxton, IL, the Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society in Education at the University of Illinois, and the University of Illinois Alumni Association. Mildred taught for 39 years in elementary education. She taught in Carthage and Hancock County from 1941 to 1949, then in Paxton and Ford County from 1949 to 1983, and retired in 1983 from Clara Peterson School in Paxton, IL where she received the Evelyn Wylie Burton, Teacher Of The Year Award and in that same year she was also awarded the Outstanding Educator Of The Year Award from the News-Gazette and the Regional Office Of Education for Champaign and Ford Counties. After retirement, she was a substitute teacher for Arcola from 1983 to 1999. She also worked at Rockome Gardens as a cook for several years. Mildred was an avid Illini Basketball fan. She liked to work cross word puzzles, watch the Wheel of Fortune, bake and cook. Mildred was a great mother, she will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
