Johann Grobe/"John Grove" was born in Mecklenburg, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany to parents, Jacob Grobe and Mary Guiton. They arrived here in the U.S. between 1854 & 1859. In 1860, he was married to Willemina "Minnie" Malcha in Michigan in 1860. They had two sons, Charles H. Grobe, and William J. Grobe. Minnie died in 1881. He was remarried in 1882 to Marie Katt in Bay, City, Michigan. Together they had nine children: Walter, Ted, Louis, Lizzie, Henry, Albert, Edie, Ida, & Elizabeth. When Marie died in 1895, he remarried for a third time to Charlotte Wolk in 1897. It is believed that they had no children together. John is buried with his first two wives beside him. It is unknown when the name "Grobe" was changed to "Grove". Some children kept the original spelling.
