Obituary

"Grandma" Crager Dead.

Mrs. Abigail Crager passed peacefully away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. G. W. Ocobeck, on east Main street on Sunday, March 15, at the ripe age of 85 years, loved by all who knew her.

Mrs. Crager was born in Jefferson county, N.Y., August 4, 1822, being the daughter of Levi and Amy Cook. On October 4, 1844 she was married to Jacob Crager at Auburn, Ohio, and to this union four children were born, Sidney Crager, who died Aug. 5, 1873, Milo Crager, who passed away October 21, 1886, and Mrs. Hattie Whitehead of Almont, Mich., and Mrs. Emma Ocobeck of Hartford, who survive.

Mrs. Crager, or "Grandma Crager" as she was more familiarly known, was one upon whom the title of "pioneer" was justly bestowed. Accompanying her husband to Michigan in 1845 they settled upon a farm in Bainbridge where they resided until 1864, when Mr. Crager engaged in carrying the mail from Paw Paw to St. Joseph.

Owing to the building of the present Pere Marquette railway, the family came to Hartford in December, 1870, the husband continuing the mail route between Paw Paw and Hartford until his death in 1883.

Nearly forty years ago Mrs. Crager's eyesight began failing and for the past few years she has been totally blind. About six years ago she suffered a broken hip, since which time she has been almost a helpless invalid. But despite these afflictions her good nature was proverbial, her happiness being uninterrupted by suffering and misfortune. This cheerfulness prompted the solicitude of friends, and the most painstaking care and consideration of her comfort were showered upon her by both relatives and acquaintances.

Her funeral is being held at her late home this afternoon, Rev. H. L. Potter of Otsego, Mich., officiating.
