Funeral services for Mrs. August J. Weiss, age 77, beloved pioneer settler of the Del Norte section, who passed away at her home her last Sunday morning, following a prolonged illness, were held from the Dave Hess home Tuesday afternoon. Rev. R. D. Zook officiated at the services, while Del Norte chapter Eastern Star had charge at the grave. Burial was in the Del Norte cemetery.
Mrs. Weiss was born at Laurel, Indiana Jan. 28, 1854, and with her parents moved to Paris, Illinois where she resided until 1881, when she came to Del Norte. Here, on Dec. 8, 1890, she was married to August J. Weiss who preceded her in death three years ago, March 27, 1928.
Born to this union were two children, Freddie, who passed away in early youth, and Lela, now Mrs. Dave Hess, who, with a sister, Mrs. A. H. Wasson of Creede and two grandchildren, Lorana and Virginina, and five nieces and five nephews, survive. Mr. & Mrs. Weiss also raised two nephews, Harold Wilt of Gering, Nebraska and Orel Wilt of San Francisco.
She was a member of the Episcopal Guild, a charter member of the Eastern Star; member of the King’s Daughters and San Juan Pioneers.
